Our Teachers
Casey Mancilla is the Choral Director of Lexington Senior High School. She graduated cum laude with a Bachelor in Music Education from UNC Pembroke and has received an outstanding senior award for academic excellence from the music department.
Before Lexington, Casey taught elementary music between two schools in Davie County. She has experience teaching children's choir at church as well as being a worship director for the adult choir at Parkton Baptist Church throughout college.
Casey is an active member of the North Carolina Music Educators Association as well as the American Choral Directors Association. She is always an advocate for music education and believes in instilling a love of music in her students.
Casey currently resides in Midway with her husband and new baby girl.

LSHS Music Courses:
Concert Choir
Concert Choir is a mixed ensemble for students at the intermediate level. An audition for the class is not required but students must have successfully completed Vocal Music at the high school or LMS chorus in 7th & 8th grade. Members of the choir are expected to attend a minimum of 3 performances per semester. Other performances may be required at the discretion of the instructor.
Choral Ensemble
Choral Ensemble is a mixed ensemble primarily for high school juniors and seniors and advanced singers. An audition is required to register for this class.
The Choral Ensemble maintains a vigorous performance schedule throughout the year. They perform for local schools, churches, civic clubs, as well as workshops and clinics. They have consistently received superior ratings at state choral festivals and other choral events. They have performed in Washington, D.C. at the white House, Walt Disney World, Universal Studios-Orlando, Atlanta, and New York City, where they performed in Carnegie Hall with the NC Youth Chorale. They have been the featured entertainment at the Biltmore House Christmas Celebration and many members have performed in Canada, Italy, Greece, Paris and London.
Samuel Howell is the Choral Director of Lexington Middle School. Mr. Howell graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Music Education. He was the recipient of the UNC Music Department Choral Award and a Woodward Music Scholar.
Prior to coming to Lexington, Sam taught high school chorus at Cumberland County. He has much experience as a pianist, cellist, and church musician, and is a Section Leader at St. Ann'es Episcopal Church. In addition, Sam is a baritone in Bel Canto Company, a well-known professional choral ensemble based in Greensboro, NC. Sam is also an active DJ and MC in the area.
Sam is a member of the North Carolina Music Educator's Association and the American Choral Director's Association. He is an engaging, energizing, and enthusiastic teacher. He seeks to inspire his students to develop a love for choral music, empowering them and making a difference in their lives.
Sam lives in Winston-Salem and loves spending time with his cat, Mittens!
